Q&A: Why don’t individual insurance plans cover the droplet era shot?
Question by squidge: Why don’t individual insurance plans cover the droplet era shot?
My husband was laid off and we need new coverage.
In applying I find out my Depoprovera shot or birth control shot, is not covered in individual plans but in group plans.
Why not? Babies cost way more than a shot every 3 months right? Getting pregnant costs 9 months worth of dr appointments plus a new member. Why can’t insurance compiles just make the birth control shot available to people who don’t want kids?

Individual insurance plans can’t cover some things like birth control and maternity, and infertility treatments for that matter, because there’s no “sharing of cost”. Only the people who WANT to have babies, use birth control, or get IVF, ever buy the coverage.
